## Interior Doors as Part of a Whole-Home Update

Interior doors are the detail people notice last and appreciate longest. Once the windows are done and the entry door has been replaced, tired hollow slabs with mismatched hardware are usually the thing that still makes a hallway look dated.

We supply and install interior doors across the Greater Toronto Area as part of larger

window and door replacement projects

, typically alongside

window replacement

or an entry door installation. Doing them together means one crew on site, one schedule, and finishes chosen as a set rather than matched afterwards.

## Styles: Panel, Flush and Glass

A **panel door** has a framed construction with recessed or raised panels. Shaker, two-panel and six-panel are the common profiles in GTA homes. Shaker reads clean and contemporary; six-panel suits traditional trim.

A **flush door** is a plain slab with no profile. In paint-grade it disappears into the wall, which suits minimal interiors; in a walnut or oak veneer it becomes a feature.

A **glass-insert door** carries a clear, frosted or reeded panel. These earn their place in interior rooms with no window (a basement office, an interior den) where borrowed daylight from the hallway makes a real difference without sacrificing privacy.

## Solid-Core or Hollow-Core?

A **hollow-core door** has a light internal lattice between two facing skins. It’s inexpensive, light to hang, and completely appropriate for closets, pantries and linen cupboards.

A **solid-core door** has a dense composite core. It’s heavier, it feels substantially more solid to open and close, and it blocks noticeably more sound. Bedrooms, bathrooms and home offices are where that matters, and it’s where we’d recommend spending the difference.

Most homes end up with a mix, and there is nothing wrong with that. The visible **door slab** style stays consistent across the house while the core spec varies by room.

### Common Problems We Solve

#### Doors that drift open on their own

The opening isn’t plumb, so the door swings toward gravity. Shimming the jamb correctly at installation fixes it permanently. Adjusting hinges is a workaround, not a fix.

#### Latches that never line up

Same root cause. When the jamb has racked, the latch and strike stop meeting. New pre-hung units set plumb solve it.

#### Sound carrying between rooms

Hollow-core slabs transmit sound readily. Swapping to solid-core on bedrooms and offices is one of the cheapest acoustic improvements available in a house.

#### Mismatched hardware across the house

Decades of piecemeal replacement leaves three lever styles and two finishes in one hallway. Specifying **interior door hardware** as a set with the doors is the fix.

## Coordinating With Your Main Project

Because interior doors are scheduled around your window or entry door installation, the crew is already on site and the finish decisions are made once. Pricing is presented per opening within the same written specification as the rest of the project, so you can see exactly what the addition costs and adjust the scope room by room.

## Add Interior Doors to Your Quote

Mention interior doors when you book your free in-home measurement and we’ll include them in the same written specification: style, core type, finish and hardware listed per opening, coordinated with your new windows and entry door.

## Why Choose Toronto Quality Windows for Interior Doors?

### Coordinated With Your Main Project

Interior doors are scheduled around your window or entry door installation, so the crew is on site once and the finishes are chosen together rather than matched after the fact.

### Solid-Core Where It Counts

Bedrooms, bathrooms and home offices benefit from solid-core slabs, noticeably quieter and more substantial to use. Hollow-core is fine for closets and keeps the budget sensible.

### Hung Properly, Not Just Hung

Consistent reveal, clean latching and no drift. Most interior door complaints come from openings that were never shimmed plumb in the first place.

### One Contractor, One Warranty

Same in-house crews, same WSIB coverage, same accountability as your window and door work. No second trade to chase.

## How Does Interior Doors Work?

1. 01

    ### Measure & Style Review

We measure every opening, check whether jambs are square, and work through styles and finishes so the doors read as one set rather than a mix.

2. 02

    ### Written Specification

Slab style, core type, finish and hardware listed per opening, alongside your window or entry door scope so the whole project is priced together.

3. 03

    ### Supply

Doors are ordered pre-hung or as slabs depending on the condition of the existing jambs, and delivered to align with your main installation dates.

4. 04

    ### Installation

Openings shimmed plumb, slabs hung with correct reveal, hardware fitted and adjusted so every door latches cleanly and swings without drifting.

## Interior Doors FAQs

### Do you install interior doors on their own?

Interior door work is offered as part of a larger GTA project, typically alongside window replacement or an entry door installation. Pairing them means one crew, one schedule and coordinated finishes rather than two trades and two invoices.

### What's the difference between solid-core and hollow-core doors?

A hollow-core slab has a light internal lattice and a facing skin. It's inexpensive and fine for closets and pantries. A solid-core slab has a dense composite core, which makes it heavier, noticeably quieter and more solid in use. We usually recommend solid-core on bedrooms, bathrooms and home offices.

### Which door styles are available?

Panel doors (shaker, two-panel, six-panel), flush slabs in paint-grade or veneer finishes, and glass-insert doors with clear, frosted or reeded panels for rooms that need borrowed light without losing privacy.

### Can you match the finish to my new entry door?

Yes. Because we're specifying both, we can coordinate finish, hardware and lever style across the entry door and the interior set so the house reads as one project.

### Do you replace the frames or just the slabs?

It depends on the existing jambs. If they're square, plumb and in good condition, hanging new slabs is quicker and cheaper. If they've racked or been damaged, pre-hung units give a much better result. We check every opening at measurement and tell you which it needs.

### Why does my door drift open or refuse to latch?

Almost always an opening that isn't plumb, so the door swings toward gravity or the latch never lines up with the strike. Shimming the jamb correctly at installation fixes both permanently.

### Can glass-insert doors be used for a home office?

They're one of the best uses for them. A frosted or reeded panel borrows daylight from the hallway into an interior room while keeping the space private, which matters in basements and windowless offices.

### How long does interior door installation take?

A typical set of eight to twelve interior doors is one to two days when the jambs are sound. Pre-hung replacements take longer because the casing and trim have to be refitted.
